About the Founder

Together We Heal was founded by Roxxanne Newman, PhD, a person in long-term, a Licensed Chemical Dependency Professional (LCDP) in Rhode Island and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC-1) in Massachusetts, whose work is rooted in both professional training and lived experience.

Roxxanne spent ten years in active addiction, during which she experienced homelessness, incarceration, and a complete breakdown of her life circumstances. On May 4, 2012, she began the hard but necessary work of recovery. That decision marked the beginning of a profound personal and professional transformation.

Since entering recovery, Roxxanne has rebuilt her life and dedicated it to helping others walk their own path toward long-term recovery. Her clinical work integrates recovery science, trauma-informed care, and a deep understanding of the realities of sustained change. She believes recovery is not only possible — it is sustainable with the right support, structure, and accountability.

Roxxanne holds advanced academic training in psychology and substance use treatment, including a PhD in Psychology. Her scholarship focuses on recovery processes, parenting in recovery, and long-term adaptation. She has authored and contributed to multiple academic publications exploring recovery science and resilience.

Her work and recovery advocacy have been featured in national and regional media, including the Boston Globe, PBS, USA Today, ConvergenceRI, the Providence Journal, and Rhode Island College publications. She has spoken publicly at the Rhode Island State House, Rally for Recovery events, reentry campus programs, and professional conferences, advocating for evidence-based policy and recovery-oriented systems of care.

Today, through Together We Heal, Roxxanne bridges lived recovery experience with clinical expertise to provide compassionate, research-informed services that support not only sobriety — but long-term recovery, stability, and purpose.
